On May 25, 2017, the delegation headed by Chairman of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the VIII Nevsky International Ecological Congress held in the city of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation.
During the "round table" organized in the framework of the congress, important environmental issues were discussed, including cooperation in saving the Aral Sea.
The head of the delegation of Turkmenistan in his speech noted that in our country the issues of ecology are given special attention, and that millions of trees are planted annually in Turkmenistan. At the same time, it was stressed that Turkmenistan takes an active part in all international conferences and forums related to environmental issues and consistently puts forward its proposals.
The participants of the Nevsky Congress paid special attention to the initiatives of Turkmenistan as the chairman of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. It was also noted that Turkmenistan fulfilled its obligations and effective cooperation with the countries participating in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
On the margins of the VIII Nevsky International Ecological Congress, the official delegation of Turkmenistan met with the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Mrs. Valentina Matvienko. During the talks, it was stressed that interstate cooperation, based on centuries-old friendship, mutual understanding and partnership relations, which correspond to the interests of the two peoples, is at a very high level.
In addition, during the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest regarding the future directions of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations.
