On March 1, 2022, the next round of annual political consultations between Turkmenistan and the United States of America began via videoconferencing.
The delegations were headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu. The meeting was also attended by heads and representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the two countries.
During the speeches and discussions, topical issues concerning, first of all, the main directions of bilateral cooperation were considered.
As was emphasized, Turkmenistan and the United States share common principles and approaches to a number of problems of modern international politics.
First of all, this is the strengthening of stability and security in the world and in the region. Both countries closely cooperate within the framework of major international organizations, primarily in the United Nations.
The parties also confirmed the commonality of approaches to such topical issues as promoting sustainable development goals, countering global threats - terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking.
Within the framework of the consultations, issues of the human dimension were discussed. In particular, a review was made of the work carried out by Turkmenistan in the field of protection and guarantee of human rights. In this regard, readiness was expressed to continue the dialogue in this segment between Turkmenistan and the United States.
During the discussions, the importance of the cultural and humanitarian constituent of bilateral cooperation and holding various cultural and educational events was also emphasized.
On March 2, political consultations between Turkmenistan and the United States of America will continue.
