On July 7, 2022, a conference entitled “Turkmenistan-OSCE: 30 years of beneficial co-operation” took place in Ashgabat. The conference was organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The conference brought together representatives of the ministries, institutions and organizations of Turkmenistan, as well as higher educational institutions and media.
Opening the conference, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov outlined the position and vision of Turkmenistan relating to all three dimensions of the Organization. He noted in his speech that an important element in maintaining the necessary level of security in the OSCE space is to increase mutual trust and develop dialogue, interaction between peoples of different cultures and civilizations.
In her video message to the Conference participants, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid stressed: “This is a good opportunity to mark a true milestone in the co-operation between the OSCE and Turkmenistan and to look to the future.”
She also commended Turkmenistan’s efforts and contribution to peace and security in the OSCE area by strengthening regional co-operation and promoting economic connectivity across the Caspian Sea.
Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat John MacGregor added: “OSCE-Turkmenistan co-operation has come a long way in three decades, but there exist great prospects for continuing and strengthening our important dialogue for the benefit of Turkmenistan and the whole OSCE region.”
During the plenary sessions of the conference, issues of security, the fight against extremism and transnational threats, cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection, gender equality, security of information and communication technologies, and others were discussed.
