On August 22, 2016 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Turkmenistan (with residence in Teheran) Mr. Y.K.A. Rohanajith.
At the beginning of the meeting the Ambassador presented copies of his credentials. During the meeting the sides discussed issues of expansion of bilateral partnership between the two countries in political, diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Noting the possibility of expanding the bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, the parties discussed the possibility of holding consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries. Particular attention was paid to the development of cooperation in the energy sector.
Taking into account that in the current year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka, and 2016 is the year of «Year of honoring the heritage, transforming the Motherland», the sides noted the proposals for the organization of joint cultural events.
In conclusion of the meeting, noting the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries in various areas, the Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Turkmenistan assured that from its part will fully contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations in all spheres of cooperation.
