On July 7, 2017, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan there was a meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Turkmenistan. Heads of 47 state structures and public organizations of Turkmenistan, heads of representations of agencies and UN structural units in Turkmenistan took part in the work of the round table.
During her speech, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Ms. Elena Panova, speaking about regular interaction on a systematic basis, stressed that Turkmenistan has become one of the first states in the region to determine the priorities of sustainable development for the next 15 years. She also noted that Turkmenistan was included at the global level in the list of countries where the UN mission will implement, strengthen and support the realization of the SDG (MAPS).
In this regard, at the meeting of the SDG Implementation Working Group with presentations on "Preliminary Results on Implementation, Acceleration and Policy Support (MAPS) for the SDG and Terms of Reference for the Follow-up Mission", the head of the Sustainable Development Branch of the UNDP Regional Office in Istanbul Mr.George Buma, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in the Republic of Kazakhstan Munhtuya Altagerel. In the course of their speeches, the MAPS mission put forward a number of proposals for the implementation of the SDG in national and regional programs and strategies.
Also,, the acting head of the representative office of the EU in Turkmenistan Lubomir Frebort, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Turkmenistan Margret Maria Webber, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Turkmenistan Francois Delaos made the presentations on country strategies and practices of the SDG implementation.
Then on the same day, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan met with the representatives of the MAPS mission in which the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan E.Panova took part. During the meeting, a discussion was held on the development of policies for implementing the SDG, as well as proposals for the institutional structure of the SDG monitoring system.
