The 55th session of the Subcommission on Illicit Drug Trafficking and Related Matters in the Near and Middle East is being held in Ashgabat at the Yyldyz Hotel.
The event was organized by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It is attended by delegates from 11 countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Jordan, France, Austria, as well as representatives of a number of international organizations.
The agenda of the Forum includes a discussion of the current situation of the regional cooperation in the field of drug control, production and distribution of drugs, including synthetic ones, their disposal and other issues. It should be noted that Turkmenistan is a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2020-2023.
Participants noted that joint concerted action, based on a broad vision of the scope of problems and issues related to drugs, would be consistent with the proclaimed principles of peacefulness, mutual trust and striving to achieve global goals - peace, stability and sustainable development.
In addition to the plenary session, the Forum will continue to work in thematic sessions, during which topical issues in this area will also be discussed.
The 55th session of the Subcommission on Illicit Drug Trafficking and Related Matters in the Near and Middle East will last until 25 November.
