On December 14, 2022, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in the Avaza National Tourist Zone to participate in the first Turkmen-Azerbaijani-Turkish summit.
Discussing the issues of Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation, the interlocutors emphasized the mutual interest of the parties in strengthening centuries-old good neighborly relations and further progressive development of mutually beneficial cooperation, which has entered its new stage.
During the talks, it was noted that both countries are actively developing bilateral relations and effectively interacting in the international arena, on the platform of major international organizations and authoritative regional structures.
The closeness of the views and positions of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on topical aspects of international life, their active position in the search for an optimal solution to the global problems of our time was also noted.
During the meeting, the heads of the two states discussed the implementation of the agreements reached earlier. A separate topic of discussion was the prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of ensuring energy security, as well as creating a modern transit and transport infrastructure, taking into account the favorable geographical position of the neighboring countries, which have colossal hydrocarbon resources.
In this regard, the relevance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Ashgabat in January last year between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on joint exploration, development and completion of hydrocarbon resources of the “Dostluk” field in the Caspian Sea was noted.
Noting that the fuel and energy complex and transport have been and remain the most important vectors of mutually beneficial cooperation, the head of the friendly state fully supported the proposals of the Turkmen side on the need to further build up partnership in these important areas.
Along with this, the importance of further expanding and strengthening ties in education, science, culture, healthcare and other socially significant areas was emphasized.
