A meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Indian Intergovernmental Commission was held in New Delhi

On August 13, 2017, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov arrived in the Republic of India on a working visit.

On the 14th of August, the sixth meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Indian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in the building of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India. The delegation of India was headed by the Minister of External Affairs of the country Ms. Sushma Swaraj.

The agenda of the meeting included a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, taking into account the prospects for its further development. The implementation of the agreements reached on the results of the fifth meeting of the Commission held in April, 2015 in Ashgabat, was discussed.

The subject of an interested exchange of views was the possibility of expanding Turkmen-Indian cooperation in the agricultural sector, as well as in the chemical industry. Issues of bilateral partnership in the field of energy, transport and communications were also discussed.

The meeting participants paid much attention to the issues of interaction in the cultural-humanitarian sphere. In particular, the importance of cooperation in science, culture and education, health, tourism and sports, as well as in the field of modern information and communication technologies was emphasized.

At the end of the meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation a Protocol was signed.

During the visit, the delegation of Turkmenistan held meetings with Vice-President of India Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Finance, Defense and Corporate Affairs of India Arun Jaitley, Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Navigation of India Nitin Gadkari, as well as with the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas of India Dharmendra Pradhan.

During the meetings, topical issues of interstate cooperation in the political and trade-economic spheres were discussed, underscoring mutual interest in the further development of the established productive dialogue.

Within the framework of the visit the members of Turkmen delegation had bilateral meetings with the leaders and representatives of government and private structures of India, where prospects of cooperation and plans for further interaction have been discussed.
