On August 23, 2017 President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived to the Republic of Armenia on an official visit.
High-ranking representatives of Armenia met a high Turkmen guest at the International Airport of Yerevan. From the airport, the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan went to the fashionable Radisson Blu hotel, where the residence was reserved for the head of Turkmenistan during the visit.
On the 24th of August in the morning the cortege of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the Residence of the President of Armenia from the Radisson Blu Hotel.
After the official greeting ceremony and the ceremony of official photographing on the background of State Flags of both countries, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan headed to the Odjak Hall to hold the one-on-one talks.
After negotiations in a one-on-one format, the Turkmen-Armenian high-level talks continued in the expanded composition of government delegations.
During the talks, the sides reaffirmed their readiness for close cooperation in countering contemporary challenges and threats, such as international terrorism, drug trafficking, cross-border crime. In particular, the Turkmen leader noted that during the meeting the sides reaffirmed their mutual desire to contribute to the strengthening of global peace and stability, the establishment of principles of trust and mutual understanding in international relations. At the same time, the readiness was expressed to develop partnership in this direction, both in a bilateral format, and within the framework of the UN, the OSCE, the CIS and other international structures.
It was noted that there is a serious potential for expansion of partnership in such spheres as energy, transport, textile industry, financial and banking sphere, agro-industrial complex, healthcare, sports sphere.
After the completion of the Turkmen-Armenian talks in the expanded composition of government delegations, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.
The Presidents of the two states signed the Joint Statement. The following documents have been signed: Agreement on cooperation in the sphere of tourism; Program of cooperation in the field of culture and art for 2018-2020; Program of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Armenia for 2018-2019; Memorandum of Understanding on the exchange of financial and intelligence information; Memorandum on cooperation in the sports field. An agreement on scientific and technical cooperation, the agreements between the Turkmen State University named after Makhtumkuli and Yerevan State University, between the Turkmen Agricultural University and the National Agrarian University of Armenia, a memorandum on cooperation between the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Diplomatic School of the Armenian Foreign Ministry were signed.
Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Serzh Sargsyan addressed journalists on the results of the talks.
The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the current meeting strengthened the foundations for a qualitatively new and more dynamic partnership in the trade and economic sphere. It was also noted that great attention was paid to the relations in the cultural and humanitarian sphere and an agreement was reached to fully support the aspiration of the peoples of the two countries to close communication, study the rich cultural and historical heritage, create conditions for creative cooperation between cultural and art workers of Turkmenistan and Armenia.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to visit Turkmenistan to participate in the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to be held on September 17.
On the same day, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and held talks with the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament Ara Babloyan. Expressing his support for strengthening inter-parliamentary relations as an important component of the Turkmen-Armenian partnership, the President of Turkmenistan got acquainted with the main aspects of the work of the supreme legislative body of Armenia.
Then, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Karen Karapetyan.
The President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia exchanged views on the current state and prospects of interstate cooperation, taking into account the priorities of the socio-economic development of the two countries.
In the evening in the residence of the President of Armenia an official dinner was given in honor of the high Turkmen guest, during which the leaders of the two states exchanged speeches.
Upon its completion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left for Yerevan International Airport, from where he left for his homeland.
