On September 28, 2017, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, the new head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Natalia Gherman, who arrived in the Turkmen capital and took part in the celebration of the closure of V Asian Games.
Expressing gratitude for the possibility of a personal meeting, the guests conveyed warm greetings from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres to the head of state, addressing the best wishes to all the Turkmen people. High appreciation was given to the cooperation of Turkmenistan and the UN, which is steadily developing in the interests of peace and general well-being. As emphasized, this partnership, based on mutual initiatives and steps to implement them, is an example of successful interaction in the international arena.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed best wishes to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stressing that active interaction with the Community of Nations and its major structures is one of the key vectors of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy marking the 25th anniversary of joining the United Nations this year, as well as 10 years of work of the UNRCCA, the creation of which is a landmark event in the history of bilateral cooperation.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated her on her appointment to such a responsible post and wished success in the efforts to strengthen peace, security and stability in Central Asia, one of the strategic regions of the planet.
During the meeting, priority aspects of cooperation on a wide range of areas were discussed. In this context, the relevance of international initiatives put forward by the head of the Turkmen state, including in the field of the formation of a new architecture for global energy security, universal disarmament, peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and addressing the issues of effective use of transboundary water resources and environmental protection was noted.
Within the framework of the meeting, some issues of regional and international policy, which were of mutual interest, were also discussed.
