On 26-27 September, 2016, the regular 12th meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian commission on consular, border and customs issues had been held in Tehran.
A delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived in Tehran to participate in the work of the commission. Co-chairman of the commission from the Iranian side was the Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Hassan Gashgavi.
During the meeting the sides reviewed the issues of implementation of the agreements reached earlier at the 11th meeting of the commission which was held on 16-17 February, 2015 in Ashgabat.
The sides also discussed issues of expansion of cooperation in the legal aspects of consular issues, cooperation in border management, and the establishment of effective control by the customs points.
At the end of the commission meeting the final protocol was signed. The next meeting of the commission agreed to be held in 2017 in Ashgabat.
