On March 26, 2024, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Kaha Imnadze.
During the meeting, key aspects of existing cooperation were discussed, and various directions for further interaction between Turkmenistan and the Regional Center were considered.
The strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN Regional Center was highly appreciated, especially in the context of the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy at the regional level. The Turkmen side emphasized its interest in strengthening the role of the Regional Center in the field of multilateral diplomacy and actively promoting initiatives to combat terrorism. The parties also considered the possibility of the Regional Center, together with the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, holding a number of regional trainings, seminars on countering terrorism, as well as exchanging experience in this area.
Particular attention is paid to the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy at the regional level, based on the provisions of the Ashgabat Declaration of 2011 and the Joint Plan of Action to Counter Terrorism in Central Asia, which was adopted in 2022.
