On May 17, 2024, within the framework of the events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi in Ashgabat, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty Amir Pirich.
During the conversation, the significant role of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty in the development of further cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO in the areas of preservation, popularization of historical, cultural and natural heritage, education, sports, and digitalization was stated. The expansion of partnership in the field of archeology was noted among the prospects for the development of interaction between Turkmenistan and UNESCO.
The sides touched upon the development of the regional project «Our Heritage» initiated by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.
The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation within the framework of the signed Framework Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNESCO.
The parties also discussed Turkmenistan’s proposal to open a UNESCO office in Turkmenistan and further steps to implement this issue.
