On May 27, 2024, political consultations were held in Astana between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Turkmen side was headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Kazakh side by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu.
The agenda of the consultations was very busy. The parties noted that Turkmen-Kazakh relations are characterized by increasing dynamics. During the consultations, a constructive exchange of views on the bilateral agenda took place, the level of political and diplomatic dialogue between two countries was reviewed, as well as the progress in implementing previously reached agreements. Focusing on the key role of contacts at the highest level, the parties agreed that these meetings are the main factor in strengthening bilateral cooperation with a long-term perspective.
The positive experience of interaction between two countries within the framework of international and regional structures, in particular the UN, OIC, ECO, CIS, as well as in the “CA+” formats, was stated. A high level of interaction within international structures was noted. Diplomats voiced the parties' mutual readiness to continue building up multilateral cooperation.
The sides emphasized the progressive development of interparliamentary relations. The ministers also agreed to strengthen the pace and dynamics of interaction between the foreign ministries of two countries.
Along with this, the parties reviewed the current state and prospects for cooperation in the trade and economic spheres, where there are solid potential for joint work. The importance of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kazakh Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, on whose platform specific projects are being implemented in order to expand bilateral relations was noted. Issues of deepening cooperation in such priority areas of the economy as fuel and energy, transport, logistics and industrial sectors also were considered.
In addition, the parties discussed issues in the field of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Interest was expressed in developing partnerships in science, education, healthcare, etc.
Thus, the political consultations held in Astana between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan demonstrated the countries’ commitment to traditional relations of friendship, good neighborliness and fruitful partnership.
