On 17 September 2024, in the framework of participation of the Turkmen delegation in the 68th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova gave a speech at the plenary session of the Conference.
In her speech M.Byashimova noted that due to the active cooperation of Turkmenistan with the IAEA, the practice of holding consultations at various levels on important fields has been established. All the efforts made by Turkmenistan demonstrate the strive to strengthen cooperation with the Agency in promising areas. Implementation of key tasks, such as capacity building and enhancement of normative-coordinative work is also envisioned.
On 18 September, the Turkmen delegation met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on key aspects of Turkmenistan’s interaction with the IAEA. Special attention was paid to the peaceful use of atomic energy in such areas as medicine, agriculture, environmental protection and water management.
One of the key areas of cooperation is in the field of medicine and is aimed at combating cancer. In this regard, the IAEA ImPACT programme implemented in Turkmenistan to monitor joint activities was noted. Special attention was also paid to the development of the IAEA Framework Programme of Cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Within the framework of the Turkmen delegation’s visit to Vienna, M.Byashimova also met with Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
During the meeting, key aspects of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the CTBTO were discussed. The parties noted the significance of the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and emphasized the importance of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
It was noted that Turkmenistan, as an active participant in international treaties and UN conventions, as well as multilateral agreements in the field of disarmament, strives to continue to support these processes both at the regional and global levels.
The Parties discussed prospects for cooperation, including raising awareness about the CTBTO among youth, staff training, participation of national experts in seminars and events organized by the CTBTO, as well as the provision of technical support.
