On November 7-10, 2017, the delegation of Turkmenistan was in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on a working visit.
At the regular fifth meeting of the Turkmen-Saudi Intergovernmental Commission that took place in Riyadh, the sides discussed commercial, economic and investment cooperation, including collaboration in the fuel and energy complex; concrete agreements were reached in several fields. The session was attended by executives from industry and energy sectors of Turkmenistan, and by management of major companies of Saudi Arabia.
At the meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Saudi Commission a number of documents were signed. Along with this, an exhibition of export products of Turkmenistan was organized.
Members of the Turkmen delegation held several meetings with their Saudi colleagues and discussed implementation of bilateral agreements reached during the official visit to Saudi Arabia of the President of Turkmenistan in May 2016.
The held talks created opportunities for attracting Saudi investments to international and national projects in oil and gas, exploration and extraction of minerals, development of communication etc. Clear desire was expressed for mutually beneficial cooperation in projects implemented in Turkmenistan in petrochemical and industrial sectors, transport and communication, mining and other industries.
Particularly, support was offered for the project initiated by Turkmenistan to construct the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India transnational pipeline.
Possibilities to export Turkmen handmade carpets and carpet products to the Saudi market and further to the markets of Arab nations were discussed along with investment projects in Turkmenistan’s carpet industry. The Saudi side offered to organize an exhibition of Turkmen handmade carpets and carpet products in Riyadh, and establish a working group to address this issue.
