On November 10-11, 2017 in Samarkand, an international conference on security and sustainable development in Central Asia under the title "Central Asia: One Past and a Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity" as well as the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Central Asian states of the format "European Union - Central Asia" were held under the auspices of the United Nations.
The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov, participated in the above-mentioned international events.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the states of the region, the leaders of such authoritative organizations as the UN, the European Union, the OSCE, the SCO, the CIS, the EBRD, and the representatives of the diplomatic corps, well-known experts, and media workers - more than 500 people arrived to participate in the conference.
On November 10, 2017 in Samarkand, on the sidelines of the international conference "Central Asia: One Past and Common Future, Cooperation for the sake of Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity", a regular meeting of the heads of the Foreign Ministries of the five states of our region was held. The Foreign Ministers of the five states signed a cooperation program between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan for 2018-2019.
Within the framework of the above-mentioned international events, the head of the Turkmen delegation R.Meredov met with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Ms. Federica Mogherini. During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects and the state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the political, economic and trade areas.
During the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Samarkand, the meetings of R. Meredov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan S.Rabbani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic E.Abdyldayev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan K.Abdrakhmanov were organized.
During the talks, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations, special attention was paid to expanding and deepening cooperation in the trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian sphere, as well as maintaining stability and security in Central Asia and beyond.
In addition, within the framework of participation in the international conference in Samarkand, the Treaty between Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan on the junction point of the state borders of the three states and the Protocol on the Exchange of Instruments of Ratification of the Strategic Partnership Treaty between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan (signed on 6 March, 2017 in the city of Ashgabat at the highest level) were signed.
