On 26 November 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pia Kauma who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the second Ashgabat Conference “Parliamentary Diplomacy in the OSCE Space: Dialogue as a Tool for Building Bridges for Secure and Peaceful Future”.
The participants emphasized the special significance of long-term fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE in the political, economic-environmental and human dimensions. The importance of the projects and programmes implemented in these fields was noted.
During the meeting, the sides noted the commitment of neutral Turkmenistan to the development of a modern energy security architecture and sustainable transport for regional and international economic growth.
In particular, Turkmenistan, as the closest neighbour of Afghanistan, stands for the integration of international efforts to ensure political and economic stability in the friendly country and provides consistent assistance in the construction of social facilities at its own expense.
The prospects of collaboration with the OSCE were also discussed, in particular the possibilities of establishing new forms of interaction to advance cooperation among parliamentarians of the region.
The sides underlined the relevance of coordinating joint efforts in ensuring security, energy development and transport connectivity. At the same time, they highlighted the necessity of continuing the exchange of experience in the field of human rights protection, cooperation on strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law.
