Conference “International Year of Peace and Trust: Cooperation of Turkmenistan with the International Community” was held in Ashgabat

On January 15, 2025, a festive conference entitled “International Year of Peace and Trust: Cooperation of Turkmenistan with the International Community” was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by the Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, leadership and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heads and staff of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, heads and representatives of profile ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, faculty and students of the Institute, as well as representatives of national and foreign media.

The conference was preceded by a literary and musical composition “Turkmenistan – the Land of Peace” performed by students, that reflected the peacekeeping foreign policy implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, great achievements for sustainable development and well-being in the region and the world.

The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Kaha Imnadze, UN Resident Coordinator for Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Jalpa Ratna, Head of the Country Office of the World Health Organization in Turkmenistan Egor Zaitsev, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Turkmenistan Tomica Paovic gave speeches at the conference. The Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Gulshat Yusupova was the moderator of the conference.

  In his speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov emphasized the importance of the telephone conversation held the day before between the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Secretary-General of the UN António Guterres.

As is known, on January 9, 2025, the first meeting of the Organizational State Committee on holding high-level events on the occasion of declaring 2025 the “International Year of Peace and Trust” and the 30th anniversary of neutrality of  Turkmenistan was held under the chairmanship of the National Leader of Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The organizational issues of preparation for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of neutrality and consultations with UN structural units on the development of the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust and its implementation were considered at the meeting.

In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, which reflects the country’s position on the main issues of the current global agenda, as well as on the consolidation of efforts of states on the basis of mutual trust, joint dialogue and responsibility.

As noted in the speeches of the conference participants, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the Resolution to declare 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, at the proposal of Turkmenistan. This was a vivid expression of recognition of Turkmenistan’s work aimed at ensuring global peace and sustainable development.

At the same time, the special symbolism of 2025 was emphasized in the context of significant events - the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

It was noted that Turkmenistan awaits the support of neutral and non-aligned countries, as well as all States that share the principles of non-interference and non-participation in conflicts, in uniting their capacities, experience and expertise to create conditions for a transition to peaceful, political and diplomatic methods of resolving existing and potential conflicts.

The participants of the event unanimously recognized the importance of the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust aimed at consolidating efforts to address pressing issues on the global agenda.

At the end of the event, the participants adopted an address to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
