On January 21, 2025, on instructions of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairperson of the Mejlis D.Gulmanova received credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan Christopher Duggan.
On behalf of the head of the Turkmen state, the head of the national Parliament congratulated the guest on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan, wishing him success in his work aimed at developing cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The Plenipotentiary Representative of Canada, in turn, conveyed warm words of greeting and best wishes to the top leadership of our country and to all the Turkmen people, who are confidently following the path of progress and prosperity.
During the meeting, the diplomat was given a detailed overview of the main directions and priorities of the domestic and foreign policies pursued by independent neutral Turkmenistan, the most important aspect of which is broad international cooperation on both a bilateral and multilateral basis, including within the framework of authoritative international organizations and structures.
Much attention was paid to the activities of the Mejlis to improve the national legislative framework, designed to facilitate the rapid achievement of the high goals set for the Renaissance of a new era of a powerful state.
In this regard, a separate topic of discussion was the possibility of establishing interparliamentary relations to exchange experience in the legislative sphere and to promote the strengthening of Turkmen-Canadian relations in general.
As Christopher Duggan emphasized, Canada is deeply interested in establishing a multifaceted dialogue with the countries of the promising Central Asian region, including Turkmenistan, which has demonstrated impressive successes and achievements.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the need to intensify political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian relations, favorable conditions for the expansion of which are created by our country’s policy of «open doors» and broad international cooperation in the common interest.
Having expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him on Turkmen soil, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada assured that he would make every effort to further deepen the constructive interstate dialogue and strengthen the ties of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
