On November 15, 2017, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov had a meeting with the Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Amjad Hussein Sial, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the VII Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII).
During the talks, identifying important areas for further interaction between Turkmenistan and SAARC, the sides expressed mutual interest in developing cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and environmental protection. Speaking about the interest in ensuring security, peace and sustainable development in the region and Afghanistan, the sides praised the status of positive neutrality of the country.
Noting that, in addition to political and diplomatic assistance, Turkmenistan is implementing a number of large-scale and fundamental projects aimed at restoring and strengthening economic potential of Afghanistan, the Secretary General of SAARC expressed the hope for further consolidation of efforts in this direction.
In conclusion, the parties expressed their desire to expand bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening regional cooperation.
