President of Turkmenistan received the High Representative of the European Union

On March 27, 2025, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss priority areas of bilateral cooperation, the High Representative of the European Union emphasized that the European Union highly appraises the successes achieved by Turkmenistan in all spheres. The guest also noted that the colourful architectural appearance of capital Ashgabat left an unforgettable impression.

Greeting Kaja Kallas warmly, the President of Turkmenistan noted that she is going to take part in the successive Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and the European Union during the visit and expressed confidence that the results of the meeting would contribute to deepening of multilateral relations with the European Union, wishing her success in the work ahead.

As noted, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to cooperation with the EU in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

In recent years, the interaction between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the political and diplomatic sphere has been successfully carried out both at bilateral and multilateral levels. Special attention at the meeting was paid to the partnership in the Central Asia-European Union format. Taking into account the potential of Central Asian states, the development of effective and mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union is of great importance for the region.

In this regard, it was noted that the First Summit “Central Asia-European Union” to be held in the city of Samarkand of the Republic of Uzbekistan is aimed to promote the establishment of a multifaceted and long-term partnership on a regular basis.

During the discussion of the current state of cooperation and opportunities for its expansion, it was emphasized that close dialogue with the European Union is carried out within the framework of implementation of programs aimed at socio-economic development of Turkmenistan. Thus, a number of major projects in the field of transport communication in the Eurasian space are being steadily implemented.

The President of Turkmenistan noted that Turkmenistan together with the countries of the region and reputable international organizations is actively developing such favourable transport corridors as North-South and East-West. The President expressed confidence that the corridors would become a reliable bridge for expanding cooperation with the countries of the Eurasian continent in trade and economic sphere.

The Head of State, appraising the level of development of Turkmenistan’s multifaceted dialog with the European Union, reaffirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan to its expansion.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas expressed confidence in further successful development of mutually beneficial cooperation and exchanged best wishes.
