Visit of the delegation of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine to Turkmenistan

On April 15, 2026, a meeting with a delegation from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, headed by Rector Tang Zhishu, was held at Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the current state of cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector and prospects for expanding medical cooperation were discussed.

In the morning, Rector Tang Zhishu met with heads and representatives of Turkmenistan’s healthcare institutions. During the meeting, participants highlighted the growing momentum of interstate cooperation in healthcare and education thanks to the efforts of Hero-Arkadag and the President of Turkmenistan.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of combining China’s millennia-old medical practice with Turkmenistan’s natural factors and rich medicinal flora. At the same time, significant prospects were noted for intensifying and further expanding cooperation in specialized fields.

The Rector of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan and Hero-Arkadag for the warm hospitality and the high organizational level of the planned events.

A signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine on the establishment of the Turkmen-Chinese Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine then took place.

An exhibition dedicated to the national healthcare system was presented to the participants of the ceremony, including information about medicinal plants growing in Turkmenistan and the country’s recreational infrastructure. A special place was given to Hero-Arkadag’s multi-volume scientific and encyclopedic work Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan.

Later, with the participation of the delegation from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine led by Rector Tang Zhishu, the opening ceremony of the “Office of Traditional Medicine” at Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan was held. The significance of the ceremony was further enhanced by the participation of Vice President for Medical Activities of the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Oguljahan Atabayeva.

Speakers at the ceremony emphasized the multifaceted nature of bilateral relations, with healthcare and education identified as priority areas. In this context, special note was made of the activities of the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, established on the initiative of Hero-Arkadag.

Amid warm applause, the opening ceremony of the “Office of Traditional Medicine” took place in the building of the Faculty of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan. Participants familiarized themselves with the conditions and equipment of the office, as well as materials on the main areas of traditional medicine.

The celebrations continued in the university’s main conference hall, where it was announced that Rector Tang Zhishu had been awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan for his efforts to strengthen inter-university relations and his significant contribution to experience exchange between the two universities.

Congratulating the honored guest on receiving the title, speakers noted that healthcare and educational cooperation between the two countries had reached a new level aimed at steady development.

As noted during the event, the medicinal plants systematically described in Hero-Arkadag’s multi-volume scientific and encyclopedic work Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan attract great interest worldwide. In this regard, it was emphasized that the activities of the “Office of Traditional Medicine” would be guided by the objectives set forth in Hero-Arkadag’s scientific works.

Rector Tang Zhishu stated that it was a great honor for him to receive the title of Honorary Professor of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan. Stressing that he regarded this title as a sign of respect for Chinese medicine, Tang Zhishu expressed sincere gratitude to Arkadag and the President of Turkmenistan.

Participants in the ceremony congratulated the Rector of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine on receiving the title and expressed confidence in the further development of targeted cooperation.
