On 21 October 2016, a Debate for the UN Debating Cup on the Theme: «Should Youth participate in policy decision-making» was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was devoted to the UN DAY.
The debate was attended by students and instructors from the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly, the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Azady, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for Humanities and Development and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management. At the beginning of the event UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Jacinta Barrins delivered welcome and opening statement.
During the debate students discussed the ways, indicators and challenges for monitoring the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations member states at the 70th jubilee session of the UN General Assembly on 25 September 2015. At the end of the event the Adjudicating Team announced the team from the International University for Humanities and Development as a winning team and presented the UN DAY Debate Cup to this winning team.
Conducting such an event is of great importance for raising awareness of young people in the priority areas of global agenda and their participation in policy decision-making.
