Heads of the Foreign Policy Agencies of Turkmenistan and Pakistan Hold Meeting on the Sidelines of UN Events
On May 28, 2026, on the sidelines of the high-level open debates of the UN Security Council, a meeting took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
During the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Turkmen-Pakistani relations, as well as pressing issues on the regional and international agenda.
The Turkmen side expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its consistent support of Turkmenistan’s international initiatives put forward within the framework of the United Nations and other international platforms.
The parties emphasized the particular importance of issues related to global and regional security.
It was noted that high-level political dialogue plays a key role in strengthening Turkmen-Pakistani relations. Regular contacts between the leaders of the two countries provide additional momentum for the development of bilateral cooperation and the implementation of regional projects. The diplomats emphasized their mutual commitment to further expanding political dialogue and practical cooperation in all areas of common interest.
Special attention was paid to the enormous potential of bilateral economic and infrastructure cooperation. A vivid example of partnership is the implementation of such regional projects as the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the development of electricity transmission infrastructure, and the creation of fiber-optic communication lines along the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan corridor.
The ministers discussed preparations for upcoming bilateral events, including a meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, as well as initiatives to hold joint business, cultural, and humanitarian events.
It was emphasized that cultural and humanitarian cooperation is an important component of interstate relations, contributing to strengthening mutual understanding and further bringing the peoples of the two countries closer together.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing the Turkmen-Pakistani partnership and continuing active political dialogue at all levels.
