Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan

On 20 July 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Xiaojun Wang.

The Minister congratulated Xiaojun Wang on her appointment to this responsible position and wished her success in her activities aimed at further strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN system, noting the high level of partnership and the importance of joint efforts in priority areas.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030, the preparation of the Voluntary National Review of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the activities of the Strategic Advisory Council “Turkmenistan – UN”.

The sides expressed their interest in developing new joint initiatives that correspond to the national priorities of Turkmenistan and global sustainable development objectives. They also emphasized the importance of promoting Turkmenistan’s international initiatives within the framework of the United Nations, as well as the consistent implementation of the Awaza Political Declaration and the Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034.

At the conclusion of the meeting, confidence was expressed in the further consistent development of fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
