The first Turkmen-Bangladeshi political consultations were held in Ashgabat

On August 15, 2026, the first political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh were held in Ashgabat. The delegations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and Secretary Bilateral (East and West) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Ambassador Nazrul Islam.

During the talks, a constructive exchange of views took place on key issues of the bilateral agenda, and the level of political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries was evaluated. The parties noted the viability of organizing visits at high and the highest levels to expand intergovernmental ties.

The diplomats emphasized the importance of maintaining regular contact between the foreign ministries of the two countries. In this regard, the parties agreed to work on the arrangement of bilateral visits of foreign ministers.

They noted with satisfaction the constructive nature of cooperation within the framework of reputable international organizations, in particular the United Nations.

Speaking about the need to expand the bilateral legal framework for cooperation, the parties reviewed drafts of a number of documents.  They discussed opportunities to intensify contacts between the parliaments of the two countries.

During the consultations, the sides thoroughly discussed opportunities for strengthening the trade-economic partnership between Turkmenistan and Bangladesh. In this regard, they explored possibilities for establishing a partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The favorable areas for cooperation identified included the oil and gas sector, transport connectivity, agriculture, textile industry and others.

Special attention was paid to the prospects for developing cooperation in the fields of culture, education, and tourism.

At the conclusion of the political consultations, the importance of continuing a fruitful partnership that serves mutual interests was emphasized.
