National Seminar on Biodiversity Conservation Held in Ashgabat

On 2 September 2026, a national seminar is being held in Ashgabat within the framework of the Global Project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility on updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans as well as preparing the Seventh National Report under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The event is being held in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the two-day seminar, participants are considering the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan of Turkmenistan for 2026–2035, as well as issues related to the preparation of national reporting under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Representatives of government bodies, scientific institutions, the private sector and civil society are taking part in the event. Particular attention is being paid to biodiversity conservation, the rational use of natural resources and sustainable development.

The participants also reviewed the draft Seventh National Report of Turkmenistan under the Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as specialized national reports under the Cartagena and Nagoya Protocols.

The seminar is aimed at further strengthening Turkmenistan’s international cooperation in the field of environmental protection and ensuring the fulfilment of the country’s international commitments in the area of biodiversity conservation.
