Meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands

On 3 September 2026, in The Hague, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Adviser on Foreign Affairs and Defense to the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Christoffer Jonker.

During the meeting, the sides viewed the opportunities to give additional impetus to Turkmenistan-Netherlands relations. In particular, the feasibility of intensifying political contacts and expanding dialogue both at the bilateral level and within the framework of Turkmenistan-European Union cooperation was emphasized.

The sides also exchanged views on the current international and regional situation. The Turkmen side shared its approach based on the country’s status of permanent neutrality, emphasizing the particular importance of preventive diplomacy, political dialogue and peaceful means in resolving complex international situations.

A separate segment of the meeting was dedicated to the economic dimension of bilateral relations. The possibilities for more active engagement of the potential of Dutch businesses in the implementation of projects in Turkmenistan were discussed. In this regard, the prospects for cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure, healthcare, innovative technologies, as well as methane emissions reduction were highlighted.

The Turkmen side expressed its readiness to facilitate the organization of visits by the heads of leading Dutch companies to Turkmenistan and their meetings with relevant government institutions and business entities of the country.

Significant attention was also paid to the cultural and humanitarian dimension of bilateral cooperation. In this context, the World Beauty Championship of Akhal-Teke horses and International Equestrian Competitions held in the province of Limburg were noted. The Turkmen side expressed its appreciation for the conditions created for holding this major international event. It was emphasized that the shared interest of two countries in equestrian traditions contributes to further strengthening cultural and public relations between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands.

Following the meeting, the sides expressed their interest in continuing the dialogue and translating the initiatives discussed into practical cooperation.
