On February 8, 2018 the Embassy of Turkmenistan in China held a briefing for the leading media representatives of the host country, during which its participants were acquainted with the main results of 2017 and the prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China in 2018.
At the briefing, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in China noted that the year 2017 was fruitful for bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and China. The year was marked by the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In June 2017, during a working visit to Kazakhstan, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who also paid a visit to Astana. The heads of the two countries exchanged views on key areas of strategic cooperation, confirming their readiness to build economic partnership.
It was noted that Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China continue to actively develop cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. A special role in this direction was played by the universal exhibition of China's goods, which was held in Ashgabat in July 2017 as part of the events marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
2017 was marked by numerous events within the framework of expanding Turkmen-Chinese humanitarian cooperation. One of the important steps in this direction was the first Turkmen-Chinese scientific and innovation forum, which took place in October last year in Ashgabat. More than 30 leading scientists from scientific, academic institutes and universities of China took part in its work.
During the briefing the participants were also familiarized with the plan of events planned for holding in 2018 under the motto "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road" in the country and beyond. Participants of the briefing were informed about the upcoming on February 23 this year solemn measures to launch the construction of the next stage of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the laying of the power transmission line and the fiber-optic communication line Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan and the opening of the new railroad Serhetabat-Turgundi. During the briefing, an exchange of views was held on the upcoming parliamentary elections in Turkmenistan.
As a result of the briefing, the participants noted that the event gave them an opportunity to get acquainted with important events and prospects for the development of the Turkmen-Chinese strategic partnership.
