Meeting of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, with the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation
On 6 October 2026, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov departed the capital for the city of Turkmenbashi in Balkan Velayat.
At the Avaza National Tourist Zone, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the International Women’s Dialogue “The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development”.
During the meeting held there, the Speaker of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament expressed her sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and congratulated the National Leader of the Turkmen People on the large-scale international events being held in the country. Taking the opportunity, Valentina Matviyenko conveyed to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and the President of Turkmenistan warm greetings and best wishes for success and well-being from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
Expressing his gratitude for the kind words, Hero-Arkadag conveyed his best wishes to the President of the Russian Federation and thanked Valentina Matviyenko for accepting the invitation to participate in the international events.
As noted during the meeting, relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation are currently developing harmoniously across various areas. The two countries are expanding their fruitful dialogue within the framework of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States and other international organizations.
The idea of holding the International Women’s Dialogue in Turkmenistan carries special significance, as the forum once again demonstrates the high regard accorded in the country to the role and contribution of women. In this context, the guest noted the significant contribution of O. Atabaeva, Vice President of the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the organization of international events for women.
At present, political and economic relations between the two countries are developing consistently, including through cooperation between ministries and government agencies. One of the important areas of international cooperation is interparliamentary relations, which contribute to the exchange of experience and the maintenance of constructive dialogue between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
Along with this, the meeting highlighted the attainment of a qualitatively new level in bilateral contacts in the fields of education and science.
In this regard, confidence was expressed that the large-scale international events being held on the Caspian Sea coast would provide a strong impetus to the further development of productive relations. In particular, best wishes were expressed for the success of the International Women’s Dialogue “The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development”.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko wished each other good health and further success in their responsible state activities, and the friendly peoples of Turkmenistan and Russia prosperity and well-being.
Following the meeting, Hero-Arkadag proceeded to the International Airport of Turkmenbashi, from where he departed for Ashgabat.
