On February 16, 2018, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan there was a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus in Turkmenistan (with residence in Moscow) Mr. Leonidas S. Markides, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to present his credentials.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Ambassador presented copies of his credentials. Then the sides touched upon the current state and prospects of intensifying cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Cyprus. Noting the status of positive neutrality of Turkmenistan and the focus on strengthening peace and stability in the region and the world as a whole, the sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in various directions.
In this regard, it was noted the need to expand the joint legal base. Noting the focus on strengthening and developing ties in the political and diplomatic sphere, the sides underlined the need for political consultations between foreign ministries of both countries on a regular basis. Touching upon the issues of international interaction, the sides discussed a wide range of issues of expanding cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
During the talks, the parties also showed their interest in the development of cultural and humanitarian interaction, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and tourism.
