High-Level Meeting of the Central Asian States on the Rational Use of Water Resources of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya Rivers
On 7 October 2026, the High-Level Meeting of the Central Asian States on the rational use of water resources of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya Rivers was held in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza”.
The meeting was chaired by the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan and brought together ministers and heads of relevant agencies of the Central Asian states. The event provided an open and constructive platform for an exchange of views on current issues of water cooperation and further development of regional interaction.
During the meeting, members of the delegations delivered national reports on the current situation, existing challenges and national approaches to the rational use of the water resources of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya Rivers. Particular attention was paid to the joint management of transboundary water resources, improvement of water-use mechanisms taking into account the socio-economic and demographic development of the countries of the region, as well as strengthening the resilience of the water sector in the context of climate change.
Following an open discussion and constructive exchange of views, the participants developed a common vision of further steps to strengthen water cooperation. The holding of the event on Turkmen soil once again reaffirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan, as a neutral state, to the principles of good-neighbourliness, mutual respect and constructive dialogue in addressing common regional challenges.
