Meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

On October 8, 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone. President Aliyev had arrived in Turkmenistan on a visit to participate in high-level events. Warmly welcoming the distinguished guest, the Head of Turkmenistan thanked his Azerbaijani counterpart for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan to participate in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, and the Caspian Environmental Summit. In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the special significance of the Republic of Azerbaijan's participation in these important international events.

Emphasizing that Turkmenistan highly values the personal attention of the President of Azerbaijan to the development of regional cooperation, the Head of State stressed that the meetings in Avaza are viewed as an opportunity for an open exchange of views, the development of joint approaches, and the identification of new areas for mutually beneficial partnership.

Thanking for the warm welcome extended on Turkmen soil, the distinguished guest noted that the international events held in Awaza serve as an effective platform for discussing important issues and developing ways to resolve them. Taking this opportunity, the Head of Azerbaijan conveyed warm greetings to the Hero-Arkadag.

As noted during the meeting, the countries are united by deep historical and cultural ties, which are reflected in the language, literature, and rich traditions of the two nations. Regular contacts and mutual visits at the highest level are of particular importance in preserving and expanding these ties.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted that he warmly recalls his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan in June of this year, which gave a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations. Speaking of this, the Head of State once again thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the hospitality extended.

As emphasized, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan actively cooperate within international organizations such as the UN, OIC, and CIS, providing mutual support for projects and initiatives, which confirms the interest of both parties in building an effective partnership.

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan possess great potential for developing cooperation in the energy, transport, and logistics sectors. A promising area of partnership is also the development of shipping and multimodal transportation across the Caspian Sea, driven by the favorable geographical location of both countries at the crossroads of Asian and European routes.

The Head of State also confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, science, education, and humanitarian exchanges, which will serve as a solid foundation for strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

In conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedow and President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the traditionally friendly interstate relations would continue to develop dynamically. They wished each other strong health and success in their state activities, and well-being and prosperity to the brotherly peoples of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
