On 7 November 2016, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived on a two-day official visit to Malaysia. Yesterday evening, the Presidential airliner landed in the International airport of Kuala Lumpur. The head of state was welcomed by high-ranking representatives of friendly countries and members of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan.
The beginning of a new phase of the partnership marked the state visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Malaysia in December 2011. Important milestones become official visits by the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Turkmenistan in 2011 and 2014, in which was reaffirmed the mutual willingness of the parties to the comprehensive revitalization of traditionally trusting partnership based on the principles of trust and equality.
In December 2011, the Malaysian Embassy in Ashgabat was opened, and in March 2013 in accordance with the Decree of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has begun to work Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. In this regard, it is necessary to underline the determination of both countries to expand bilateral cooperation on a wide range of areas, among which should be noted political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and also cooperation in the spheres of oil and gas, electronics, textile and food industries. In this context, special importance is attached to regular business meetings of the state and business structures, joint measures to establish business contacts. The Malaysian company «Petronas» is engaged in development of hydrocarbon deposits in the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.
Among the perspective areas taking into account the common priorities of the state development it is necessary to note spheres of education, sports and tourism.
The next visit of the Turkmen leader in Malaysia, has undertaken at the invitation of the head of the government, Dato Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, is intended to give new impetus to the constructive dialogue, to elaborate common approaches to the long development of mutually beneficial cooperation, taking into account the maximum utilization of the accumulated experience of joint work and available richest resource and economic potential.
According to the results of the upcoming talks at the highest level it is planned to sign documents on the priority areas of cooperation of Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the coming years, designed to significantly expand the scope of traditional mutually beneficial partnership.
