On March 14th, 2018, the Consulate General of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Turkey (Istanbul) held a round table devoted to the successes and achievements of independent Turkmenistan in the foreign policy sphere, the activities of Turkmen diplomacy on the implementation of constructive international initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the development of international cooperation, general stability and sustainable development.
The round table was attended by teachers and professors as well as Turkmen students studying in higher educational institutions of Istanbul, and the representatives of local media.
As it was noted during the round table, Turkmenistan, realizing its neutral status and the policy of "open doors", actively implements large-scale projects in the field of sustainable energy and transport, nature protection and ecology, health and sports. Interacting with major international organizations and, above all, with the UN, Turkmenistan has achieved great success in building a lasting peace in the region, becoming the author of a number of international initiatives supported by the world community.
It was also noted that on February 22, 2018, Turkmenistan was elected a member of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee (UNECE) Bureau for the period 2019-2020 at the UN Office in Geneva (Switzerland) during the jubilee 80th session of the Inland Transport Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The participants of the round table familiarized with the materials devoted to the start of the construction of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the laying of power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication lines on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route and the commissioning of the Serhetabat -Turgundi railway.
In addition to these, the participants were informed in details of the upcoming on 25th of March elections of the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the members of the provincial, etrap and city People’s Councils and the members of the Geneshliks that indicate the faithfulness of the Turkmen people in democratic and developed reformist future.
At the end of the round table, all of its participants were distributed thematic information leaflets.
