On June 3, 2018 for the first time in many countries World Bicycle Day was celebrated. It was established by the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Early in the morning, many thousands of residents of the capital on bicycles gathered in a picturesque corner of the Turkmen capital - near the roundabout at the intersection of Kopetdag Avenue and Djulga Street, from where a magnificent panoramic view of Ashgabat opens.
Among the participants were government members, heads of the Mejlis, military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments of the country, representatives of public organizations and the media, diplomats, youth.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived to the place of the start of the mass bike ride. In conversation with the leaders of well-known foreign organizations and world champions in cycling, the head of state expressed gratitude to them for participating in the current action and, at their request, was photographed with them for the memory.
President of Turkmenistan addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. Recalling that on April 12, 2018 at the 82nd plenary session of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly the relevant Resolution proposed by Turkmenistan was co-sponsored by 56 states, the President noted that the announcement on June 3 of the World Bicycle Day was a testament to the unanimous recognition of the initiatives of our state, aimed at strengthening peace, friendship and fruitful cooperation.
Famous guests from different countries take part in the current mass bike ride. Among them, the president of the Cycling Federation of Russia, three times Olympic champion Vyacheslav Yekimov, world champion Sergei Nikitenko, president of the international group of companies "Areti" I. Makarov and other titled athletes and cyclists.
Once again, heartily congratulating the gathered with the World Bicycle Day, President wished everyone good health, prosperity and great success.
Then President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov launched a mass bike ride and headed the column, which moved unanimously.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, having traveled along the Kopetdag Avenue to a distance of 8 thousand 500 meters, finished at the final point - the Health Track.
Saying goodbye to the participants of the mass cycling marathon, the head of state departed from the scene, heading to the motor sport center located in the north of the capital, completing his sports part of the day off with training sessions.
And other cyclists continued their journey along the streets of Ashgabat, the total length of the mass bike ride was 30 kilometers.
This day the holiday was held not only in Ashgabat, but also in all velayats.
International Bike Day was also celebrated in many countries around the world, where sports and entertaining thematic events were held on June 3. The Embassies of Turkmenistan abroad initiated bicycle rides - such mass rallies with the participation of Turkmen and foreign diplomats, heads of public, sports organizations, youth, including students from our country studying in foreign universities, took place in the capitals of the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Austria, Germany, the Republic of Belarus, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, Ukraine and other countries.
