On July 5, 2018, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to discuss the National Plan of Action for the implementation of children's rights in Turkmenistan for the period 2018-2022 in the light of sustainable development goals and national priorities in ensuring the well-being of children.
Representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan, headed by the head of the mission, Ms. Shahin Nilofer, as well as officials of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan participated in the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Turkmen side informed about the priority directions of the state policy of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Noting the success of youth policy, as well as the protection and ensuring the rights of a child, a brief excursion to the work carried out in the field of education and healthcare was held. Speaking about priorities in realizing the rights of children in the context of sustainable development goals, the meeting participants noted the adoption of the National Action Plan and discussed the issues of joint measures for its implementation. The head of the UNICEF office noted the significant and multisectoral nature of this document and made several proposals to implement it through the organization of a number of events and the creation of a joint working group.
Informing about the purposes of this document, the Turkmen side noted that the National Action Plan for the realization of the rights of children in Turkmenistan for the period 2018-2022 includes the entire scope of the policy of Turkmenistan in the protection and implementation of the rights of children and women.
