On July 25-26, 2018, political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea had been held in Pyongyang.
From the Turkmen side, the political consultations were headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev and from the North Korean side - Deputy Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Sin Hong Chol.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and the DPRK in the political, economic, cultural fields as well as within the framework of international organizations.
The parties expressed their confidence that the political consultations held in Pyongyang will play a big role in deepening the friendship between the peoples of the two countries and strengthening Turkmen-Korean cooperation in all spheres. The importance of ensuring political dialogue at the level of the heads of Turkmenistan and the DPRK was especially noted, which will give impetus to the dynamic development of bilateral relations.
In the course of the consultations, it was stressed that both sides are now actively working to implement the agreements reached during the working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Ri Yong Ho to Turkmenistan in April this year.
There was expressed interest in strengthening interdepartmental relations, developing trade relations, establishing a legal framework for bilateral cooperation. Among areas of mutual interest, energy, transport, agriculture and the cultural-humanitarian area were noted.
After the talks, the parties signed the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for 2018-2020 and a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Within the framework of the visit the delegation of Turkmenistan had a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Ri Kwang Gun, and afterwards the delegation was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK Ri Yong Ho.
