On November 25, 2016 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan a meeting was held with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan (with the residence in Ankara) Mr. Christopher John Cooter, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.
The Ambassador asked to convey to the President of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen people his sincere congratulations on the 25th anniversary of Independence of Turkmenistan.
During the talks, which took place after the presentation by the Ambassador the copies of his credentials, the parties discussed further plans to strengthen cooperation between Turkmenistan and Canada. Among the priority areas of cooperation were identified cooperation in the political and diplomatic sphere. There has been an interest of the parties in the development of relations in the framework of international organizations, in particular the United Nations. After exchanging views on topical issues of the international agenda, the sides marked the commitment to enhance international and regional cooperation, focused on the development of cooperation in the security sphere.
Also during the meeting the sides discussed possibilities of expanding cooperation in trade and economic sphere. Special attention was paid to cooperation between the two countries in the field of sports. Noting the importance of the Turkmen-Canadian relations, the Ambassador for his part assured that he will make all necessary efforts to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in all fields of mutual interest.
