President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon participated in the opening ceremony of the new building of the UN office in Ashgabat.
Among the participants of the ceremony there were the members of the Government, heads of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, delegates of the Global conference on sustainable transport, representatives of international and local media.
On the front of the building, the ceremony of raising the Flags of Turkmenistan and the United Nations had been held.
The opening of the new building of the UN office in Turkmenistan marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of our cooperation, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noting that the hallmark of this partnership are successfully implemented joint projects, adopted international initiatives of Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring global peace, security and stability.
The head of Turkmenistan and the UN Secretary-General together cut the symbolic ribbon opening the new building of the representative office of the largest international organization.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the UN Secretary-General inspected the arrangement of its rooms, the rooms for the staff and also gym located in the basement, where the UN Secretary General personally tested the available sports equipment.
At the end of the opening ceremony the head of Turkmenistan on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan presented executive class car to the UN office in Turkmenistan.
