The Government of Turkmenistan and the Energy Charter Secretariat are co-organising the International Meeting of Experts on Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy on April 22, 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. The Meeting will focus on the topic of "Facilitating Investments in New Transit Infrastructure". The aim of the meeting is to facilitate policy debate within the expert community on setting up a new international legal mechanism that would support and sustain secure energy supplies to world markets. In particular, the meeting will serve for an exchange of experience on what makes investments into major cross-border/ transit- infrastructure projects viable.
This meeting will continue the work initiated during the first meeting of experts hosted by the Government of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat on 10-11 December 2014 under the UN General Assembly Resolution 67/263 "Reliable and stable transit of energy and its role in ensuring sustainable development and international cooperation". This resolution sponsored by Turkmenistan stresses the need for extensive international cooperation for promoting the reliable transportation of energy to international markets through pipelines and other transportation systems.
The meeting of 22 April will take place in the office of the Energy Charter Secretariat and will provide an opportunity for more than 60 experts from governments, international organizations, companies and academia, representing Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, to discuss mechanisms to achieve reliable and stable transit of energy.
