On April 24, 2024, the International Visiting Forum began its work in Paris, to attract foreign investment in the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan, organized by the State Concerns «Türkmengaz», «Türkmennebit» and the State Corporation «Türkmengeologiýa».
The forum was attended by the executives and representatives of the hydrocarbon sector of Turkmenistan, well-known foreign oil and gas business structures, financial institutions, authoritative organizations and leading experts from companies specializing in this field.
The agenda of the current meeting includes such contemporary issues as the effective use of the richest natural resources, the development of energy marketplace attracting investments in mutually beneficial large-scale projects, new mechanisms for contacts in the field of increasing productivity in the largest fields of Turkmenistan, the introduction of environmental friendly production, innovative technologies and know-how.
The forum continued with thematic sessions - “The role of Turkmenistan in the future of global energy”, “Prospects for natural gas production in the context of the energy transition”, “Reducing methane and carbon dioxide emissions from hydrocarbon production and alternative energy sources”, “Commodities for the energy transition: new trends and investment opportunities”, “The role of financial institutions in promoting projects in the field of clean energy and modern infrastructure”, “Accelerating the process of attracting investments in new projects of Turkmenistan in the field of construction, gas chemistry, transport and communications”.
It was noted that the establishment of partnership with large companies and reputable financial structures, increased the export capabilities of the Turkmen state, which has a favorable geopolitical location that is capable of implementing splendid projects. Those who present were acquainted with the achievements of the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan and further plans for its development.
During speeches were noted that the Turkmen state has a powerful resource base, which opens up enormous prospects for cooperation in economy, including the fuel and energy sector. The world's largest gas field "Galkynyş" today is being developed in the context of specific projects with a focus on long-term partnership, in particular, with the aim of providing natural gas to the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India.
During the forum, a number of foreign companies presented their technologies related to the reduction and capture of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere from oil and gas, oil refining and chemical industries.
As it is known, at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28), held on December 2 in Dubai (UAE), President Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced Turkmenistan’s accession to the Global Methane Commitment and the continuation of active cooperation with international organizations and partner states to solve climate problems.
In this context, it was especially distinguished that Turkmenistan is actively promoting clean energy and “green” technology of the future. An example of this is the construction of a hybrid solar-wind power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatts near the Turkmen lake “Altyn asyr”.
The participants of discussion, emphasized the high effectiveness of the forum, noting the need to continue the practice of organizing related events and were assure that the current meeting will play a significant role in expanding productive interaction in the energy sector.
