From 11 to 12 June 2024, the tenth session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is taking place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Over the course of two days, States Parties consider important issues of the Convention in order to guide efforts to preserve living heritage around the world. The agenda includes reports from the Intergovernmental Committee and the Secretariat, reflections on wider implementation, plans for the use of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund in 2024 and 2025, accreditation of new NGOs, a report on the 20th anniversary of the Convention in 2023 and the election of 12 new members of the Committee.
Participants congratulated the newly elected session chairperson, members of the Presidium and countries that recently acceded to the Convention. Gratitude was expressed to the chairpersons of the 17th and 18th sessions for their fruitful moderation.
These sessions were particularly successful for Turkmenistan, leading to the inclusion of «Turkmen-style needlework art» and «Art of Akhal-Teke horse breeding and traditions of horses' decoration» on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
