Exhibition of Turkmen carpets in Bucharest museum has started

On March 25, 2025, the grand opening of the exhibition of Turkmen carpets entitled “Heavenly beauty – the Turkmen carpet”, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania and the State Association “Turkmenhaly” (Turkmen Carpet) took place in the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest.

The exhibition is devoted to the “International Year of Peace and Trust”, as well as the 30th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, members of the Romanian Parliament, heads of ministries and departments of the country, rectors of higher educational institutions, representatives of academic circles and the private sector, Turkmen students studying in Romania, as well as representatives of the mass media.

The Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of Romania Diana Bachuna, as well as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Romania Annamammet Annayev made welcoming speeches at the event.

It was noted that handmade Turkmen carpets are unique and the art of carpet creation has been carefully preserved for centuries. Ancient samples are exhibited at museums, exhibition halls and art galleries in many countries. The Turkmen carpet continues its triumphal path around the globe, becoming the “business card” of the Turkmen people.

Turkmen national art of carpeting is included in UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The recognition by UNESCO experts of the Turkmen carpet tradition as part of the cultural heritage of the whole world contributes to its widespread popularization.

The exhibition presents not only carpets, but also works of painting, silk products, national ornaments, reflecting the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people. At the exhibition, a special place is given to the rare carpets.

The exhibition of Turkmen carpets at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasants in Bucharest will last until March 31.
