Turkmenistan and ICMPD discussed priorities of cooperation in the field of migration

On April 14, 2026, as part of the Turkmen delegation’s participation in the World Border Security Congress, which began in Vienna, Austria, a delegation of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Chairman Sahy Imamberdiyev, held a working meeting with Susanne Raab, the Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD.

The sides confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in the field of migration management and border security. During the meeting, priority areas were discussed, including integrated border management, digitalization of migration systems, and the development of migration policy.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA), as well as Turkmenistan’s participation in regional dialogue platforms such as the Prague Process and the Budapest Process. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding practical interaction through joint trainings, data exchange, and the implementation of pilot initiatives.

It was noted that Migration Resource Centres are one of the flagship projects of ICMPD.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides emphasized their commitment to promoting safe, orderly, and regulated migration and agreed to continue expanding cooperation through the implementation of concrete projects and partnership initiatives.

The World Border Security Congress brings together representatives from various countries and regional organizations to strengthen cooperation, improve border management, and expand the implementation of advanced technologies. The event will continue until April 17.
