The delegation of Turkmenistan participated in OEWG-48 meeting in Bangkok, Thailand
The 48th meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (OEWG-48) and the Sixth Extraordinary Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (ExMOP6) were held in Bangkok from July 13 to 17, 2026.
During the meeting, representatives of the countries discussed key issues related to the further implementation of the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment. The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting.
Representatives of the countries discussed current scientific, technical, and organizational issues related to ozone layer protection and the implementation of the Kigali Amendment. Particular attention was paid to improving regional monitoring of controlled substances in the atmosphere, increasing the energy efficiency of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and improving legislation on ozone layer protection.
The recovery, reuse, and environmentally sound destruction of refrigerants, training and certification of refrigeration specialists, and the introduction of natural refrigerants and new sustainable cooling technologies were also discussed.
The meeting included consultations on preparations for the 38th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP3-38), which will be held in November 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda, and will mark the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Kigali Amendment.
Turkmenistan's participation in these events will contribute to strengthening international and regional cooperation, sharing experiences, further improving national legislation on ozone layer protection, and promoting sustainable development principles.
