On February 9, 2023, a meeting was held with the Chairman of the France-Central Asia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Senate of the French Republic, Hervé Maurey. The meeting was also attended by Vice President of the French Senate Commission on Economic Affairs, Senator Franck Menonville and Senator Arnaud de Belenet.
The main topic of discussion was the issues of enhancing and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between the countries, as well as the implementation of the agreements that were reached during the visit of the Senate delegation to Turkmenistan in December 2022.
The interlocutors stated that the meeting with the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Arkadag - National Leader of Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which took place during the visit to Ashgabat, gave impetus to the development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, Ambassador M.Charyev acquainted the French senators with the latest constitutional amendments that have come into effect, which will determine the further path of development of Turkmenistan, as well as the powers of the newly created representative body of people’s power – Halk Maslakhaty, which opened up new prospects for the participation of the general population in the adoption of the most important socio-political decisions in the country.
During the conversation, Ambassador M. Charyev also briefed the senators on the progress of work on the construction of a new administrative center of the Ahal velayat – Arkadag city, which should become a model of an innovative city.
