The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan A.Germanov, as part of a working visit to Geneva to participate in the work of the 76th session of the World Health Assembly, on May 20, 2023, held a meeting with the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during which a wide range of issues related to the interaction of Turkmenistan with the Organization was discussed.
During the talks, the Minister informed about the measures taken by Turkmenistan in the field of ensuring the health of the population and preventive measures in this area. Particular attention is paid to education in the field of public health, promotion of healthy lifestyles, prevention and early detection of non-communicable diseases and information campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
In this regard, the head of the Turkmen delegation invited the WHO Director-General to take part in the 3rd Ministerial Conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Ashgabat Declaration on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, which will be held in April 2024.
In turn, the WHO Director-General highly appreciated the approaches of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at creating a healthy society, providing quality and affordable medical care for citizens, implementing comprehensive immunization programs, access to medicines and medical equipment, as well as the development of new information technologies, which are important elements on the path to sustainable development and the creation of a reliable system of medical care. The WHO on the further development and improvement of the healthcare sector also emphasized it about the support of Turkmenistan.
