On May 22-26, 2023, a delegation led by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan takes part in the 32nd session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).
The theme for this year's discussion by the Commission is "Improving the performance of the criminal justice system to ensure access to justice and build a safe and secure society".
At the opening of the session, the President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Kӧrösi, the President of ECOSOC Lachezara Stoeva, the Executive Director of UNODC Ghada Wali, the President of the 32nd session of the CCPCJ Mary Mugwanya, who noted the important role of the Commission in the development of global efforts to combat crime and focused on criminal justice.
In his speech, the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan drew the attention of the participants to the positive role of our country in the active promotion of international and regional cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime. It was noted that purposeful work is being carried out in Turkmenistan to eradicate all forms of organized crime. This is evidenced by the adoption of National Programs to combat such types of organized crime as terrorism, human trafficking, corruption, drug trafficking. All these programs are being implemented in full.
Turkmenistan highly appreciates the UNODC initiative to provide practical support in the fight against crime in the region, improve national legislation in accordance with international standards, and strengthen the capacity of law enforcement agencies.
Turkmenistan, being a party to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols, actively participates in the mechanism for conducting country reviews on the implementation of their provisions. The General Prosecutor's Office of Turkmenistan is the coordinator for the review of this Convention from the Turkmen side and is actively working in this direction.
